Right about now is when my skin starts to break: by mid-winter, my skin actually hurts deep down due to lack of moisture.
The problem is that I absolutely loathe lotion with a passion. People always say things like “use your unwanted products on your body” and I’m like ??? I don’t want to be smearing things I don’t even like on myself and then moping around waiting for my skin to dry. When I’m done with a product, I’m really done.
The solution is the illi Fresh Moisture Body Lotion. Is it the best lotion on the market? No, absolutely not. If you like body lotion, there’s a good chance you’ll hate it. But if you hate lotion, this might be the one you can stand using.
illi Fresh Moisture Body Lotion Review
About the brand: illi is a Korean hanbang (traditional Korean medicine) skincare and bodycare brand owned by Amore Pacific.
What it is: a fast-absorbing body lotion that smells like lemons.
Ingredients: Water, Butylene Glycol, Alcohol, Glycerin, Dimethicone, Niacinamide, Squalane, Cyclopentasiloxane, Camellia Japonica Seed Oil, Citrus Junos Peel Oil, Citrus Junos Peel Extract, Panax Ginseng Root Extract, Gardenia Florida Fruit Extract, Theobroma Cacao (Cocoa) Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Dimethiconol, Bahenyl Alcohol, Bis-PEG-18 Methyl Ether Dimethyl Silane, Cetyl Ethylhexanoate, Arachidyl Glucoside, Arachidyl Alcohol, Carbomer, Tromethamine, PEG-100 Stearate, Dextrin, Disodium EDTA, Phenoxyethanol, Fragrance. CosDNA analysis.
Ingredient breakdown: the water, butylene glycol, and glycerin deliver some watery moisture while the alcohol helps this to dry FAST. The other ingredients deliver a hint of emollients without making my skin feel heavy, sticky, or weird.
Packaging: a solid, but somewhat flexible bottle with a really durable pump. It can take a lot of hits.
Smell: like lemon zest. The scent more or less stays stable over the life of the bottle (mine is from mid-2014).
Price: about $20-25 for 350ml, depending on where you buy it.
Value: I mean, listen, importing hanbang body lotion 350ml at a time isn’t exactly the most cost-effective route, but if you need lotion and can’t stand any of them, this could be worth the price.
What’s not good: if you actually like body lotion, this one is not going to get you wet. Move along. Spare yourself a fairly expensive disappointment, but do consider other illi lotions. My friend Cat from Snow White and the Asian Pear reviewed the Total Aging Care Body Lotion that a lot of people love.
What’s good: if you absolutely hate body lotion or have no time for letting lotion sink in but desperately need to get something on your dryass skin, this will deliver some moisture while drying down crazily fast with zero stickiness, in my experience.
Will I repurchase it: yeah, if I ever manage to run out of my bottle.
