Thoughts on Direcsil Face Shield
There’s a new kbeauty trend product hitting social media: liquid pimple patches. The product comes in a tube, and you’re supposed to squirt out the clear gel, apply it to your zits, let it dry, and then apply makeup over it. In theory, it will protect your healing skin from makeup and give you a smoother canvas for base makeup.
I first spotted a liquid acne patch product called the NOT4U Real Skin Patch on Memebox Korea’s Instagram and immediately bought a tube. I mean, if the thing worked, it would be revolutionary, right?
Yeah, so it sucks. I decided to start small and covered just a healing zit. The gel took forever to dry and then peeled up at the edges before I could even get makeup on. The only way you could conceivably get base over it is by using a strict up-down tap motion with a cushion puff or beauty blender. Even then, the stuff peels up, so you’d end up looking like you need the King’s Touch … due to trying to get perfect skin.
A similar product called Direcsil Face Shield is making the rounds on social media and I was tempted until I remembered my experience with the very very similar NOT4U product, which turned out to be NOT4ME.
By the way, I’m not sure why you’d cover your whole face in a product that costs $15-20 per small tube. Unless it worked perfectly and you only busted it out for special occasions? I dunno, man, I’ll spend, but that’s just not sustainable imo.

The videos were compelling enough that I clearly thought about buying liquid face shields on two occasions, so I went to my favorite source for a reality check: the Hwahae ingredient and product review app. There, I saw that I was not alone: a rating of around 2 after a fair numbers of reviews on Hwahae is pretty terrible, and it usually happens when customers feel like the product didn’t deliver on its claims. Hard pass.
If you need some pimple patch action, Cosrx patches are the gold standard, if a bit thick for under base mkaeup. If you need a patch for under makeup, A’pieu Nonco Tea Tree Spot Patches aren’t going to suck much out, but they’ll serve as a thin shield (but still visible) between your skin and base. Not perfect, but better than these disappointing, fairly expensive “face shields”.
I’m old and tired and my skincare routine is actually more or less working, so I just roll with what I’ve got these days, evened out by some bb cream. I wish these liquid face shields worked, but they’re garbage. Please don’t throw money at the hype.

True story, I got the coupon and just shrugged. I didn’t buy anything lol. Offer me a book deal or something, I think I’m finally taming my Sephora addiction! ahahah
