I had high hopes for the brand new Papa Recipe Bombee Green Honey Masks: Papa is a proven mask god, the ingredient list looked alluring, and avocados make my [old] millennial heart shake with anticipation/need to drop a house down payment. And then I tried them.

Papa Recipe Bombee Green Honey Mask Review
Papa Recipe has started to introduce a new packaging design for their sheet masks that features a honey pot cut-out top. So far, even the Papa Recipe Korea website has been selling out of the new masks, so don’t be surprised when you receive the old design for a bit since vastly more of those are still in circulation. That said, all Bombee Green Honey masks you receive should have the new honey pot cut-out packaging.
A packaging update would be less important to note for other mask brands, but Papa Recipe has been extremely popular for some time, and counterfeiters have copied the brand’s packaging. Papa Recipe has responded by releasing new packaging designs and a spy-level authentication website that scans the authenticity stickers on each box and mask. That said, I couldn’t get the spy site to fully authenticate my stickers when I tried it (and it seemed like a site error, def not a counterfeiting issue).
Sheet Size, Fit, Material, and Thickness
The sheet is made of microfiber and it’s backed by a standard liner. It fits my giant head pretty well: the eye holes are nicely sized for delivering essence to the most vulnerable dry areas prone to fine lines, the mouth hole similarly comfortable yet well-sized for some talking without gargling essence, and the nose (as always, I mean, I have a “strong” nose) is too small for me, but that’s every mask. The masking experience was comfortable, but I didn’t feel like it lived up to the comfortable nothingness of wearing the original Bombee.
Water, Glycerin, Butylene Glycol, Trehalose, Hydroxyethylcellulose, 1,2-Hexanediol, Panthenol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Honey Extract (200ppm), Propolis Extract (100ppm), Royal Jelly Extract (100ppm), Glycyrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Zingiber Officinale (Ginger) Root Extract, Schizandra Chinensis Fruit Extract, Coptis Chinensis Root Extract, Camella Sinensis leaf Extract, Citrus Grandis (Grapefruit) Seed Extract, Aconus Calamus Root Extract, Peilla Ocymoides Leaf Extract, Carum Petroselinum (Parsley) Extract, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Fruit Extract, Hydrolyzed Extensin, Acetyl Hexapeptide-8, Copper Tripeptide-1, Arginine, Biosaccharide Gum-1, Dipotassium Glycymhizate, Allantoin, Propylene Glycol, Glyceryl Acylate/Acrylic Acid Copolymer, PVM/MA Copolymer, Carbomer, Polysorbate 80, Chlorophyllin-Copper Complex, Caramel, PEG-60 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Disodium EDTA, Ethylhexylglycerin, Capryly Glycol, Fragrance. CosDNA analysis.
Sheet mask essence is wet water, like, let’s not get too complicated here, the benefits really come from water, glycerin, butylene glycol, and trehalose. Sure, there are some sexy extracts in the mix, but there’s just not that much in the formula.
Essence Thickness, Quantity, Scent, and Finish
Here’s where I think the problem is: there’s 25 grams of essence in each mask, which is standard for every Papa mask with the exception of the Ginseng Red Honey Oil Mask (20g). That means that there’s as much essence in the original Bombee masks as in these new Bombee Green Honey masks…except the Green Honey sheet is so much thicker and more absorbent that there’s not really much at all left in the mask envelope once the mask is applied and the backing is removed.
If you’re already pretty well hydrated, this isn’t going to be the end of the world and you might even enjoy the less drippy mask and envelope situation. But if you’re masking with the aim to deal with some dryness, especially dry patches, coming up empty when you try to squeeze some extra essence out of the envelope to slap into the mask is a bit frustrating.
The scent is a real bright spot. The mask has a juicy honey apple fragrance that lasts during application and then fades once the sheet is off.
The essence finish isn’t sticky, but it also doesn’t seem to impart much in the way of moisture. I can’t believe I’m saying that. On one hand, my skin has been drier than usual due to Accutane, but also it’s not THAT dry and a good mask will usually do the trick. In this case, even double masking couldn’t get my skin hydrated.
Papa Recipe Bombee Green Honey Mask Results
This mask really didn’t do the thing: I was left with thirsty skin even after 40-minute masking sessions. I even tried back-to-back masking and still couldn’t get full hydrated in the dry zones. The whole point of a sheet mask is to deliver watery essence and this mask just doesn’t have enough essence to make masking worthwhile; I’ve had a single application of a great moisturizing toner such as Earth’s Recipe do more for my skin than this mask. PASS!
