I’m reporting from the road. The dining room at my parents’ house specifically. It’s been almost three years since I’ve been home (in part due to the blog, sigh), so bear with me being slow to approve and respond to comments — I’ll be back at the end of the week!
The Comforting Danger of Whole Face Patch Testing
I mentioned in my Dr.Jart+ mask review that my job can be crazily stressful. The big annual clusterfuck happened this past week and — much to my shock and amazement — it wasn’t actually a clusterfuck, and I walked away energized and totally happy with how everything went down.
95% of it was experience, our team, and our hotel partners, but I think 5% of why I survived is due to bringing a ton of entirely new skincare with me, setting aside hours each night for elaborate routines and baths, and patch testing with my whole face.
Do I recommend just throwing a ton of new things on your face at once while in a completely unfamiliar place? Naw.
Do I think that throwing a ton of new things on your face at once is a useful distraction and one of the most benign self-destructive things someone can do? Yup.
This technique is probably unsuitable for most people, but if you’re like me and need minor stress to distract from serious stress, boom, this works and it won’t leave you with a hangover in the morning. The worst that happened to me was some overexfoliation that I was able to fix by scaling back on exfoliants and ramping up the humectants.
I’ll let you know which new products worked and which left me a mess soon!
The Lipstick League – week of 3.27.17
Question of the Week: When was the last time you made a dramatic change to your hair (not just a trim or root touch-up)? Tell us what you did!
The most drastic change to my hair was last fall right before going on vacation: I gave myself silvery purple hair with a purple shadow root (I used Pravana, which was recommended to me by Chel from Holy Snails, who knows her hair color). It was WILD and people loved it. I’ve never had a non-standard hair color before, so this was a great introduction to fun colors. I don’t know if I can top that, but I’m going to give myself pink hair soon (and keep it — I had cotton candy hair for about two minutes before blasting it to silvery blonde for work).

Clumps of Mascara – I love so much about Shea Moisture Cosmetics and I’ve been a fan of their skincare and haircare lines even more. But as much love as I have for them, there are a few things they can work on.
EauMG – In celebration of spring, I’ve spent the week reviewing “Purple Flower” perfumes: lilacs, hyacinths, violets and more!
fanserviced-b – The reason you’re going to buy the Dr.Jart+ Firm Lover Rubber Mask is because Dr.Jart+ thought it would be cool to put a rubber-clad baby dom on the packaging. The reason you’re only going to try it once is because it’s expensive and sucks.
Gouldylox – I spent last weekend at America’s Beauty Show in Chicago and one thing was really clear. This trend is so popular, it’s about to go from everything to fetch.
My Beauty Bunny – Last weekend I had a unicorn hair makeover at Spoke and Weal, an Aveda salon. Check out my post for all the details on my results and experience!
