Ultimate Skin Goals + the Lipstick League

Umm…did anyone else see kpop group BTS on the Billboard Music Awards last night?? Spoiler alert: they won an award. I’m not an ARMY (hardcore BTS fan), but there may or may not (MAY) have been screaming in my house. Interested in their music? Boy In Luv is my favorite song by BTS and Silver Spoon has a permanent place in my workout playlist.

Ultimate Skin Goals

It feels like a long time ago, but I once said “a toner is just a fucking toner” when a journalist attempted to pump meaning into why I write about skincare. In case that’s not blunt enough, let me make it clearer: nothing about my interest in skincare is all that deep. For some people, beauty products have real meaning — and that’s totally fine and good. I’m just not one of those people.

I have no desire to attempt some sort of cosmetic cosplay where I follow a routine set out by someone else in order to become a Korean woman or whatnot. I think that Asian skincare is awesome because it tends to cost a lot less than stuff with similar formulations where I live. Not every product may be a winner, but the prices have allowed me to test enough stuff so I can find out which products are actually good.

My primary goal — which I think is the goal of most people where I live — is merely to have skin I can take outside without makeup, skin I feel good about wearing. I’d like to go to the grocery store wearing sunscreen only.

If given the option to take a one-time pill to fix all your skin issues for the rest of your life and give you a full dose of natural sun protection would you ever bother with skincare again? I 1000% absofuckinglutely would not put another skincare product on my face. What about you?

The Lipstick League – week of 5.16.17

Question of the Week: We all go through phases when it comes to beauty products, so tell us what you’re really into right now. Makeup? Skincare? Fragrance? Haircare? Or…?

I’m kind of into body skincare right now! I’ve been enjoying post-workout steamy showers followed by full-body acids lately, and I want to try repairing skin (WHAT I’M TALKING ABOUT IS STRETCH MARKS TYVM) with retinoids next. It’s a whole new frontier for me.

Nouveau Cheap – Ulta has added so many new brands to their website over the past few months, but did you hear about these two brands that will be available (very) soon?

Phyrra – Do you have problem skin but hate caking on foundation? I share my Glowing Light Coverage Foundation Routine for Problem Skin!

Prime Beauty – Ding dong, Avon calling! Color me impressed with the updated color rich Avon True Color Nourishing Lipsticks! Read my review and see swatches.

we heart this – Feel the power of the BUBBLE!

Beauty Junkies Unite – I’m getting ready for some bright summer fun with the new MAC Fruity Juicy Collection!

Blushing Noir – Just when I thought Chrissy Teigen had slayed every aspect of my life she went ahead and did a collab with BECCA Cosmetics, proving she actually IS my spirit animal. Check out the Glow Face Palette here!

EauMG – I’ve decided I just want to smell like the French and Italian Riviera this summer. And this aromatic citrus from Tonatto Profumi smells just like that.

fanserviced-b – I tried the pricey, Instagram-famous Hanacure zombie mask and the results were pretty horrific.

Gouldylox – Bored with your beauty stash? Here are ten reasons you need to update your routine right now!

My Beauty Bunny – This week, we reviewed the entire Urban Decay x Basquiat collection in a 2 part series. Check out them out here!

(Wondering what the Lipstick League is? Find out here.)

Nouveau Cheap is Currently Craving: I just discovered that Tocca has hair fragrances now, and I’m super excited to try them (especially Cleopatra, since I love the idea of my hair smelling of grapefruit and cucumber).

I also screamed. Roommate was not fazed. I think she’s used to my screaming.

I love the routine and trying new things, but I’d definitely take the pill if it meant I could just have fun with toners, essences and sheet masks, and not deal with my PIH! ☠️☠️☠️

Wait…I WON’T become a genuine, bonafide, visa-carrying South Korean woman if I continue to use my Innisfree Apple Juicy Cleansinf Oil? I have been LIED to.

And as for a magic skin pill? Well, I am cheap and lazy (what a dream combo!) so if I could take a cure-all that would considerably reduce my financial and time expenditures…to quote Ron Swanson: “Please and Thank You.”

Hey Tracy! Pretty-please report back on your experience about acids and retinoids on stretch marks. I need to do something about these “lovely” marks as well… Thanks a lot!

I second this! I have gotten my face care down but i still occasionally get bacne. I also have some stretch marks from puberty and gaining weight and now losing weight.

I would really like to know how your body skin care experiments progress, I’ve been thinking about doing something similar myself. I would also *love* to hear some of your thoughts on all the at-home led treatments I’ve been seeing around, the rubylux lighs look especially intriguing (mostly cause they’re cheap…).
